The Record

Every page on this site we keep up to date, and the date each one was last checked against its source.

What we keep up to date

How these are maintained

Most of what this site publishes is news, and news is read once. These pages are not that. They are maintained: we come back to them, re-check them against the primary source, and date the check where you can see it.

The board above is generated from the same data the pages themselves are built on, which means it cannot flatter us. If a reference has not been re-checked in over a fortnight, it says so in public, on this page, whether or not that is embarrassing.

The references

  • PVARA Licence & NOC Tracker — who may legally provide virtual asset services in Pakistan, what a No Objection Certificate does and does not permit, the eleven licence categories with their Schedule-I capital minimums, and the statutory clocks an applicant is held to.
  • PKR/USDT P2P Premium — what a dollar of stablecoin actually costs in rupees against the interbank rate, collected from both sides of two P2P order books four times an hour.
  • Virtual Assets Act 2026, Explained — the statute the whole regime rests on, read section by section.
  • Exchanges & PVARA Status — what each exchange operating in Pakistan is actually authorised to do.
  • Pakistan Crypto Tax — written, and held back pending review by a named ICAP member or an FBR-registered tax lawyer.
  • The Sharia Record — written, and held back pending review by a qualified scholar.
  • Mining & Energy Economics — planned.

Two dates, not one

Every reference carries two dates, and the gap between them is the point.

Last change moves only when a fact moves — a licence granted, a deadline passed, a figure corrected. Verified moves whenever a person sits down with the primary source and confirms that nothing has. A page can be entirely correct and entirely current while looking abandoned, and only the pair of dates tells you which you are looking at. A single "last updated" stamp cannot: it either goes stale on a page that is right, or gets nudged forward on a page nobody read.

Fourteen days is the threshold. Past it, a reference is flagged here and in our own monitoring, regardless of whether we think it has changed.

What we do when we are wrong

Corrections are published, not quietly edited. Where a reference has been corrected, the correction and its date are carried in the page itself, and in the data the mobile app reads, so both surfaces say the same thing. A fact that changes silently is indistinguishable from a fact we never got right.

Why two of these are not published

The tax guide and the Sharia record are written. Neither is published, and neither will be on our own reading of the material.

The tax guide states what is owed under Pakistani law, which is advice people will act on with money. It waits for a named ICAP member or an FBR-registered tax lawyer. The Sharia record describes rulings that shape whether Pakistanis consider crypto permissible at all; it waits for a qualified scholar. Neither page carries advertising or affiliate links, now or later — monetising a religious ruling would cost us the only thing that makes any of this worth reading.

Publishing late is a cost we can absorb. Publishing wrong, on either of those two, is not.

Where the facts come from

From the documents. The Virtual Assets Act 2026 and S.R.O. 1419(I)/2026 as gazetted, not summaries of them. Rates from the order books themselves, collected in Pakistan, four times an hour.

Where a source does not exist, we say so rather than substituting a weaker one. PVARA is required by regulation 9(6) of S.R.O. 1419(I)/2026 to publish a public register of authorisations and has not done so, so every entry on the licence tracker is drawn from press reporting and company announcements — and is labelled that way, on the tracker and on the board above. They will be replaced by the official register the day it exists.
