USDT touched Rs287 on P2P, the highest in our eight-week series
The price Pakistanis pay for USDT on peer-to-peer markets hit its highest level in our daily series on 28 September, while the official dollar rate barely moved. It has eased since. We don't know what caused it.
Key takeaways
- On 28 September 2026, USDT traded at about Rs287.33 on Binance P2P, the highest of our 56 daily readings since 6 August.
- The premium over the official dollar rate reached 3.76%, up from 2.06% eight days earlier.
- By 30 September it had eased to 3.06%, with USDT at about Rs285.34.
- Our Pakistan Fear & Greed Index reads 44 (Fear), while the global index it draws on reads 71 (Greed).
What the numbers show
Every day at the same hour we record what USDT costs in rupees on Binance P2P and compare it with the official USD/PKR reference rate. The gap between the two is the premium: what it costs, above the official rate, to turn rupees into a dollar-linked asset.
| Date | Official USD/PKR | P2P USDT (mid) | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 September | 278.63 | 284.36 | +2.06% |
| 28 September | 276.91 | 287.33 | +3.76% |
| 29 September | 276.96 | 286.07 | +3.29% |
| 30 September | 276.88 | 285.34 | +3.06% |
The gap opened from both sides. Between 20 and 28 September the official rate slipped by about Rs1.70, while the P2P price rose by about Rs3. The 20 September reading was the lowest premium in our series. The 28 September P2P price was the highest.
For a buyer, the difference is concrete. The median price to buy USDT was Rs283.75 on 20 September and Rs287.25 on 28 September. On 1,000 USDT, that is Rs3,500 more.

What we don't know
We have not identified a cause. A one-day peak that eases within 48 hours can be a thin order book on the day as easily as a shift in demand, and we are not going to pick a story to fit the number.
One caution about our own data. The series contains a higher premium, 5.78% on 22 August. That reading is an artefact: the reference-rate feed dropped to 270.02 for a single day, while P2P prices did not move. We keep it in the archive, because readings are never edited after the fact, but it is not a real spike and we do not count it here.
The mood gap
Our Pakistan Fear & Greed Index stood at 44, in the Fear band, on 30 September. A month earlier, on 31 August, it was 64, in Greed. A rising P2P premium pushes the index towards fear, because it signals people paying more to get out of rupees.
The global index that feeds into ours read 71, Greed, on the same day. International sentiment and the Pakistani measure are pointing in different directions.
What this means for Pakistani users
- Check the rate before a large trade. The price moved by more than Rs3 per USDT within eight days. On a large conversion that is real money.
- Compare the two sides. On 28 September the gap between buying and selling prices was narrow, about 16 paisa, so the higher price applied whichever way you traded.
- This is a measurement, not advice. It describes what P2P ads were asking. It does not tell you whether to buy, sell or wait.
What we're watching
- Whether the premium settles back into the 2.3% to 2.95% band it held on 25 of September's 30 days, or stays above 3%.
- The official rate, which ended September at its lowest reading of the month: 276.88, from 277.70 on 1 September.
- A second P2P venue in the daily archive, so a single exchange's order book cannot move the series on its own.
How we measure it
The daily figure is the trimmed median of the top 20 Binance P2P advertisements on each side for PKR/USDT, with the top and bottom quarter discarded, measured against the ExchangeRate API's USD/PKR reference. It is an indicative measure of advertised prices, not a quote from any exchange. The full method is on the USDT rate page.
